Viewing and Searching the Community Calendar

Revised: April 02, 2002

Contents

Overview

The Community Calendar is a searchable database of both one-time events and regularly scheduled activities of local interest. You can browse monthly calendar event listings and search for events.

Viewing the Calendar

The Community Calendar allows you to browse monthly event listings. Each month is displayed like the following example:

September 1999

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday

To view another month/year, select it from the lists below and click VIEW.

Month:

Navigating the Calendar

The current month is displayed by default. Navigating the calendar is simple:

  • Click the buttons in the top-left or top-right corner to move backward or forward one month.
  • Select a month and year at the bottom of the calendar and then click VIEW to jump directly to a specific month.

Viewing Events

Days that have scheduled events have an additional border and the dates are linked to the event listings; click the link to view the event listings. Please note the following when you view the event listings:

  • "Canceled" is displayed below the title of an event that was canceled.
  • The new date is displayed below the title of an event that was postponed or advanced to another date.
  • "This is day x of an event that lasts x days" is displayed below the title of events that span multiple days.

When you are finished viewing the event listings, click your Web browser's Back button to return to the Event Calendar.

Searching the Community Calendar

To search for events within the Community Calendar, enter your search criteria and then click Submit this Search. You can search with any combination of the following search options:

Title Specify the event title
Category Select a category of interest. By default, the All option is selected and
all categories are searched.
Sponsor Specify the event sponsor
Description Specify the event description
City Specify the city where the event is located
Select this box... Select this box to search by the Start date and End date, described below.
If you do not select this box, the default search extends 60 days from the current date.
Start date Select the date to begin your search
End date Select the date to end your search

Note: The options described above are not case sensitive. For example, the Community Calendar considers "Holiday" and "holiday" the same. If you are unsure of the exact phrasing of an event listing, try using partial names. For example, if you are unsure if an event is titled "Holiday Dinner" or "Community Holiday Feast," specify holiday . Any event with "holiday" in the title will be returned by your search.

Search Results

After you specify your search criteria, click Submit this Search. The results of your search are displayed on a new web page. A maximum number of events are displayed at one time (as determined by a Calendar administrator). If your search finds more than the maximum number of displayable events, try limiting your search by specifying more search options (see tips below). When you are finished viewing the event listings, click your Web browser's Back button to return to the Custom Search.

Tips on Searching

  • If your first search results in the maximum number of displayable events, click your Web browser's Back button to return to the search page and refine your search with more options or a shorter time range.
  • If you select an event category for your search, don't assume that the event submitter specified the category you would have chosen. For example, a heritage festival may be submitted under the Entertainment or Arts categories.
  • Always use partial names in your search. If an event was submitted with the title of "Mid-Missouri Harvest Festival" and you specify Missouri Harvest Festival, the event will not be found by your search. In this case, specify Harvest or Miss.
  • Don't forget the Select this box... option to search by date--it must be selected to search by the Start date and End date. If it isn't selected, the search extends 60 days from the current date.
