Configuring Netscape or Thunderbird E-mail

Settings for All Clients

User Name: Complete e-mail address
       Example: johndoe@kinetic.more.net

Server Settings: Use either POP or IMAP for receiving (incoming) mail; use SMTP for sending (outgoing) mail.

MOREnet Outgoing Server (SMTP)

SMTP (with authenticated SSL encryption)

All: smtp.kinetic.more.net
Authentication is by user name (complete e-mail address) and password using SSL.
SSL uses port 465 or, in some clients, an alternate port.

MOREnet Incoming Servers (POP or IMAP)

POP, POP3 (no encryption)

eMINTS: pop.teachers.emints.org
All others: pop.yourdomainname

Or

IMAP (no encryption)

eMINTS: imap.teachers.emints.org
All others: imap.yourdomainname

Configure SSL and Secure SMTP in Netscape for Windows

The following instructions work with versions 7.2 and above. Customers using older versions will need to upgrade.

Note: In both the Outgoing Server (SMTP) and Server Settings dialog boxes of Netscape Mail's setup, you must enter your full e-mail address in the User Name box.

  1. Open Netscape Mail and Newsgroups.
  2. Click Edit Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings.
  3. In the list on the left, click Server Settings.

  4. Check to make sure your settings match those in the Server Settings dialog box below. Then click Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left side menu.

  5. In the Server Name box, type smtp.kinetic.more.net. The Port box should be set to the default value of 465.
  6. Select the Use name and password check box and type your new e-mail address in the User Name box.
  7. Under Use secure connection, select SSL.
  8. Click OK.

Configure SSL and Secure SMTP in Thunderbird

The following instructions work with Thunderbird 1.0 and greater. Customers using older versions will want to upgrade.

  1. Open Thunderbird. Click Tools > Account Settings.
  2. In the left side menu, click Server Settings.

  3. Check that your Server Settings match the ones in the dialog box below. Then click Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left side menu.

  4. In the Server Name box, type smtp.kinetic.more.net. The Port box should be set to the default value of 465.
  5. Select the Use name and password check box.
  6. In the User Name box, type your new e-mail address.
    Note: You must enter your full e-mail address in the User Name box.
  7. Under Use secure connection, select SSL.
  8. Click OK.
